“When you’re exercising your right to be self-determining, it’s not tough, it makes you feel good.” – Les Collins

Reflecting on over 40 years of the community controlled health sector in Queensland, this film describes the impact of self determination on health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Featuring interviews with some of the pioneers and activists who founded the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council, we also filmed at four of QAIHC’s 24 member organisations to illustrate service delivery in action: Wuchopperen (Cairns); Yulu Burri-Ba (Stradbroke Island); Gurriny Yealamucka (Yarrabah); and Apunipima (Mossman Gorge).
